Instead of groaning when the alarm goes off?  Why not change up your routine. By starting the day with a few simple morning habits you will start your day with purpose.

This way you’ll have more energy, clarity and calm so you can get the most out of your life. So you can live your best life there are some simple things you can do to start the day purposefully.

Try these 5 morning habits to get your day off to a better start

1. Breathe mindfully and connect to your inner self

Before you get out of bed, before you even open your eyes, take a few moments to focus your breathing and connect deeply to your inner self. Take three long deep breaths through your nose, gently and slowly breathing out through your mouth.

Then return your breath to its normal pattern, noticing the breath, and the rise and fall of your chest and belly as you breathe.

2. Intention – set your intention for the day

How do you want to feel? What state of mind will support you best? How will you choose to connect with others? Resolve to check in with your intention during the day and adjust your mindset and behavior accordingly.

What impact do you want to have in the world today? How can you take the best care of yourself as you go about your daily business?

Set a simple intention for how you want to be in your day. Make it a positive, straightforward statement. I can be as simple as “Today I want to be kind to myself and others” or “Today I will stay calm and grounded.” Make it appropriate for where you’re at and what you have to do.

3. Incorporate gratitude habits each morning

Being thankful for the life that you’ve worked hard to achieve. As it can help you to reconnect with your purpose and the things and people in your life that motivate you.

Creativity does not always come easily so getting back to your roots of inspiration and the people who have helped you along the way will assure that you’ll keep working hard even when the going gets, inevitably, tough.

Try incorporating a gratitude into your morning habits. Make it part of your daily commute. Think of two or three things or people for whom you are thankful. Not only will it help inspire you to keep working hard, but it will also make you happier, more optimistic.

And will reveal what matters most to you in life so that you can spend more time doing the creative things you love rather than the mindless things you merely put up with.

4. Hydration as a priority morning habit

You know you need to drink more water. Make it easier on yourself making it a habit to start your morning with a big glass of water,  even before coffee, breakfast, and exercise. You can keep a water glass or bottle on your night table so you can start the day as you mean to go on – well hydrated!

Follow your first glass with another before you have your coffee. Make your second glass an Ayurvedic drink of warm water with lemon. That is a traditional way of giving you a boost of Vitamin C, detoxing and stimulating your metabolism.

5. Plan your morning the night before

Making to-do lists will allow you sleep better by setting aside the to do’s for upcoming day. And it will save time for what is important such as practicing your healthy morning  habits.

Plan what you will wear the night before as well as prepping lunch, your gym gear and so on. By planning ahead you will feel calm and collected as the day begins. A habit that will set you up for a purposeful day.
